Tom Mounting Opinion/Story" Anywhoo, so the other day, I took my kit apart to play out, and when I got back...(the gig went okay, thanks. It rained a little, and I think our bassist is playing down to our level 'cos he thinks he's better than the rest of the band, which is kinda true. Still, it cheeses me off, 'cos if he kept playing so good, we'd probably get better. Anyway, his amp got soaked...) Anyway, when I got back, I dried and polished everything up, and I left the room for a bit, with the toms sitting on the carpeted floor, I guess I was going to tune them up again, since they were un-mounted...And when I get back, my five year-old is standing there, playing the three toms, sitting right on the ground, plastic bucket-style! And that sure did look like a pretty convenient way to play them that way, I mean a little damped and muted, but they were just at his level, and I though, that's not the worst way to play a bunch of toms... Anyway, I really don't play toms much. For a few accents here and there. I like the SNARE better. And I'm really dying to make my own SNARE DRUM. I'd love to have one of those SNARE kits!!! Even a cheap one. C'mon! You know you'd love to give me one! In fact, if this here story managed to win won, I'd probably love it so much, I would buy another one, next time a sweet 10-ply maple with brass hardware. Jeez I love drums...Oh and cymbals too...Sorry am I rambling? Brad Deacon

I've got a cheap Yamaha set, with the toms mounted on the bass drum with the ball-clamp mounts. They sound pretty nice, and the toms bounce a littel bit. But they are a little too far away from me so I hit the near rims a bit. And I can't get them any closer to me, since that would mean moving the bass drum too near, and then the pedal would get in the way of my big old legs and all, and my knee gets a little cramped. Did I tell you about my bike accident?...
