I've been playing 20 inch bassdrums for more than 15 years just because I feel a 20-incher has more punch than a 22. Some may claim a bit of the low-end is lost compared with a 22 but that could be made up for by head selection, tuning, muffling etc... Miked up, you can get a huge sound out of a 16 inch bassdrum...
