If you used a water based stain. I've found that after two heavy coats it dosen't matter how much more you put on the shade stays the same unless you put a darker color on top(for a fade or burst effect).You can kinda know what they are going to look like with a shiney coat of laquer by wiping the shell lightly with a wet paper towel.
