Well if anyone listens to Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy had a foot control for his strainer so he could change it in the context of just one song. His new Melody master snares have multiple positions for the strainer. Also, Terry Bozzio plays with and without the strainer engaged. It just takes a little bit of ingenuity to find uses for the strainer and most drummers cant because their band doesnt prefer it or doesnt have much flexibility when it comes to the drummer doing what he wants.
