what is the purpose of the throw off i have noticed old drums did not have them they had more of a tensioner something to tighten the snares but no throw I have been playing for about 20 years and have never used the throw is it just so you can use it to get a differnt sound out of the drum when it is in the off position ??? I have never seen anyone elese use one in a live situation either
