this is true i have two 7x13 snare drums 1 with two 2-1/8 holes and another with a standard air vent w/grommet ....this air vent is above the butt plate...the snare with the 2 big vents is pingier and louder than the one with the standard air vent, however it seems like the one with the standard air vent has more sustain vs. big vents =dryer sound
