I have found thst straight 45 degree edges give a more open sound and therefore include overtones if you need them. I prefer an internal stiffening ring for strength and rigidity and so a bearing edge is needed. Typically I take a medium grade sandpaper and soften the bearing edges a little at a time. There is no particular formula (not rocket science)but it seems that the flatter the bearing edge then so the sound will become slightly drier - so no overtones? Hope this helps. By the way what is a 'vintage' bearing edge - I am old enough to remember that the first Yamaha 'Gadd' kits had Gretsch 50's type bearing edges that rounded outward - is that vintage ????
