Budget and type of Detecting is normally the decision to be made.
I wanted the best Price/Performance ratio for my budget so I ordered the Garrett AT Pro w/ sniper coil, Garrett Pro Pointer and some accessories. I think the V3i is going to cost you A LOT more than that all on it's own, but it's also a 'Top-Shelf' detector. The Garrett is a GREAT machine, but the V3i IMO, is for a SERIOUS 'Land Detector' who wants the best.
I did a LOT of research and to be honest, I wasn't going to buy the ATPRO due to the 'issue' that a few people were having with them, but it seems that these issues have been fixed and all current machines are good to go.. GARRETT did a GREAT Job fixing any machine that had the initial problem, so Kudos to Garrett, they obviously stand behind their products and that's what finally made up my mind about pulling the trigger on the AT PRO.
Anyway, I had to order mine from the USA, as Stock up here was 'dismal' on not just the GARRETT'S but Whites, Tesoros, etc... It was 'slim pickins'! I Got a GREAT deal though ($499.95 US) and then added the pointer, the 4.5" Sniper Coil and a few other accessories (pouches, sheaths, etc..) and with shipping and GST, I'm 'just under' $875.00 CAN. I'm basically 'All Set' for detecting BOTH on land and in the water and once my stuff gets here, sometime this week, I'll be looking for 'bare patches' to go detecting... I'm stoked!
