I too have had a few one room school busts...I find if the old school building is still standing then almost for sure there wont be many finds.
But if the building is long gone, the chances are much better for finds. The standing buildings are easy targets for fellow detectorists, but the ones that require research to find, especially in a huge farm field, the odds greatly increase that it hasnt been hunted before. Same rule of thumb goes for old churches..the finds in the above post were from a church site with no building, it had never been hunted, down the road is another old church still standing, I might of found 2 pennies there.
Another factor that there maybe more one room school finds in my neck of the woods is that they were built from the turn of the century to the mid teens and decommissioned in the mid 50's...many more years of kids running around,,well past the depression era.

This one room school site was a bust, even though it was well off the beaten track..looked so good
