I wouldnt bother with the Famous Trails detector.
The Garrett Ace 150 or 250 would be a much better choice. Like Rockpup said, the Tesoro Compadre is a great detector and I'm sure there are a couple of Bounty Hunters in that price range that would be a much better detector than what you can buy at Costco.
Having a decent machine will give you a much better experience, best of luck
