Was watching my son play ball and saw a guy swinging on the other side of the field by the trees. Thought by golly I'm gonna go say hi because there's not many MD'ers around here.
Got closer and realize he is using a full size long handled #2 shovel. Seems odd I think to myself, must have some really good technique!
As I get closer I realize I am walking over a cratered landscape with holes, dirt and grass on it's side - in and out of holes. Arghhhhhhhh!
Sidled over with a smile to talk with the fella. Oh yeah he says, just got it from a friend, a little Tesoro, kinda new at it, not much luck so far yada yada. Any trouble pinpointing I ask, not really he says.
Cool, glad your enjoying it and I say real diplomatic like that I use a trowel and try to plug a very small hole, put the dirt back and then replace the plug so it looks very close to original.
Blank stare - huh he says. Mention that it would be a real shame if someone got upset about how his holes are replaced and no one could metal detect in the city any more or worse yet someone gets hurt by the hole.
Yeah I suppose he says, was kinda wondering when someone might say something he says. So why ya still doing it ya dummy !!! So I fill a hole back in as best I can while he's watching and suggest some deep grass areas so his dig is not so noticeable.
I figure point made so off I go and wish him good luck. After ball I head over to see how he's doing and it is worse! Never did clean up the former holes and made a whole bunch more - ok so 2 were clean refills out of about 18.
He was long gone so I spent the next half hour following the trail of destruction and doing my best to cover his tracks. Worst thing is I haven't even been out yet this year and here I am filling in this dummies digs - let me say it again - arghhhh!
