Detecting under a Waterfall up in the Mountains
The past weekend our family went camping in the mountains near the small town of Porterville.
The camping area is high up in the mountains near a small river. There are approximately 22 waterfalls in this river of which one is particularly large and has a swimming area at the bottom of the fall.
Yesterday morning I decided to detect this mountain pool and took the whole family with for a trek up the creek to the falls.
The first pic is of Mariana and Nina in front of our two tents. It was VERY warm with the temperature near to 40 degrees Celsius.
The following pic is of us climbing up the mountain: It was really hard going at some places and if you have a fear of heights I would not recommend this climb.
After about an hour we reached the large waterfall and I was happy to get into the refreshing water with my metal detector as soon as possible…
Here I am trying to get under the fall …
The water was thundering down on my head and it did not take me long to realize that even with the head phones on I could hardly hear a thing. It was like a steam train over my head the whole time!
Not only did my ears fail me, my eyes were permanently full of water and I couldn’t see a thing after a while!
I did receive a signal or two, but the bottom was too rocky to make digging easy and I just gave up… Well, at least I tried!
Taking a rest on our way down the mountains to the camp.
It was a nice weekend but very tiring. I must be getting old!!
Regards
Pierre
