I know, I know, if you look after the pennies.. the dollars take care of themselves. Horse feathers! I really don't want to waste my rechargeable battery power pinging on juicy sounding rusty old pennies. Problem is - there is no easy fix. No conventional metal detector on the market can give you a solid 100% guaranteed or your money cheerfully refunded indication for standard penny. Problem is manifold. Seemingly identical pennies come in various flavours. Some higher or lower in various elements. Some modern pennies even respond to a magnet (almost as smart as the ring-pull). Rust .. good old fashioned rust is electronically an exotic substance. That's why the rustier an item the more likely it is to cut through ANY amount of meaningful filtration. Interestingly this applies to iron oxide and copper oxide only. As other metal oxides are not 'electronically exotic'. So how to positively ID (and avoid) pennies? That my friend, is the $6,000,000 question. Any ideas? I'll be sure to post my way 'outside of the box' ideas in a day or two. I encourage your feedback except for positive feedback on the merits of penny-shooting. That you can start your own thread (on).
