I vacationed in Myrtle Beach this past September and tried my hand at detecting the beach. There was so much sand being thrown up when the tide came in that everything was covered over . I tried wet sand hunting and a little bit in the water but found a few coins only. I met a local detectorist there who was standing in the water up to his chest. His tip was when the beach is sanded in you have to walk around in the water up to your neck and check for holes or depressions and that's where the goodies will be, providing the waves and current allow it. If the tide takes out sand then hunt the wet sand on the beach. Here's a few pics.
This is what a sunrise looks like in case you nooners have never seen one.

The atmospere was very quiet and calm, all the folks were very friendly. I live in Toronto so it was like I had died and gone to heaven. I imagine the summer months are more hectic. For all you golfers it's a golfers Mecca.
