I would add that you look into HSF (Hospital Saturday Fund) as well. Great premiums and coverage and 1 week turn around time time for reimbursement. I suppose it depends on your health problems and needs. I liked that HSF reimburses for the things my family uses---eye, dental, complimentary treatments.

: There are loads of plans from each of the
: three providers (www.avivahealth.ie
: www.vhi.ie www.quinn-healthcare.com ) but
: each of them offers a basic standard plan
: (Plan B from VHI and the others have
: similar).
:
: The basic idea is that you're buying major
: medical coverage. Many doctor bills or a
: large portion are covered, you can usually
: get ahead of the line of uninsured people
: when it comes to setting up doctor visits,
: tests, etc. Once in the system, then
: everybody is treated the same except that
: the private insurance gives a wider choice
: of hospitals and fewer number of people in
: the ward.
:
: There are company plans that have to be
: offered to anyone who asks. Ask for the plan
: government employees are on.
:
: Costs have been ratcheting upward swiftly
: over the last 3 years, nearly a doubling in
: costs over that period. We switched our plan
: from Plan B to another one that left out the
: country's top heart hospital and one or two
: obscure diseases that we don't have and
: saved a bunch of money.
:
: If I remember correctly, my wife and I are
: now paying about 1500 euro each per year for
: this coverage.
