Sorry to hear that. We open our first account with TSB in 2005. Some of the documents required: passports (of course), mortgage statement, 6 conseq. months of bank statements and utillity bills, letter from our local bank, and most recent tax--W2's would have worked, but we are both self employed. I can't remember anything else, tho there certainly could have been something.

: I did not have that luck when I blew in. they

: Yes, but you can use your address in the
: States and change when the move is complete.
: There are, of course, many documents needed,
: but these are needed no matter where the
: address is located.

: I see one problem in your reply. You need a
: address to set up a bank account... along
: with other documents. setting up a bank
: account in Ireland due to the rules is NOT a
: easy matter.

: It would be a good idea to set up bank
: accounts if you haven't already done so.
: Most landlords I know prefer standing orders
: for direct debit. I might bring several
: thousand in traveller cheques, but use a
: debit card whenever possible. I have found
: you get better exchange rates than doing
: business in banks...AND many banks won't
: cash cheques without an account. You'll want
: one at some point, any way. One thing, be
: sure to check with the bank(s) of your ATM
: cards to know what charges might apply and
: how many withdrawals (both amount/day or
: week and frequency).
