I'm not sure of your circumstances Bern, but for us to get residency we had to prove that we did have private insurance. VHI was the only insurer that would make the arrangements prior to our arrival, with activation on the date of landing.
This is an ongoing requirement for us; each year that we want to extend our stay, we have to prove our coverage.
