The more opinions there are, the more clear the picture becomes. I will be letting a house at first so it most likely will be TV 'ready' as it seems that is one of the amenities on all the homes listed that I have checked out on daft.ie. So, I can say, with all your extra insights, that I will be prepared in that avenue. It's great to get questions answered here! Good to hear from you again CJ and Scott, too!

: I just want to say that it's possible to exist
: in the modern world without TV. We were such
: addicts that when we moved to Ireland with
: out young kids - budding young screen savers
: that they were - we decided as part of the
: move that we wouldn't buy a TV.
:
: Talk about withdrawal symptoms! Those first
: two weeks were like going off heroin or
: something.
:
: But, then we started using the local library
: heavily and the kids started reading and
: getting their fix only when they visited
: friends and 18 years later our proud boast
: is that this is one tax that we've totally
: avoided. That's more than 3,000 Euro - or
: its equivalent in purchasing power - that
: we've saved.
:
: Or squandered on books, actually. But, hey
: an addict will always find something...

: Sorry to beat a dead horse, but also wanted
: to
: point out that TV license inspectors will
: note any TV antenna aerials or satelitte
: dishes. So even if you don't own a TV but
: have an aerial on your roof, they will fine
: you. If you are renting a place with an
: aerial, they will fine you. Even young
: adults away at university dorms have to
: license the TV in their rooms!
:
: It is very rare that a home doesn't own a
: TV. It's your word against theirs!
