To clarify, you are not a citizen, but you are eligible to become one since your Mom was born in Ireland. Once the Irish government sends you a citizenship certificate, then you are a citizen, and eligible to get an Irish passport. When I applied for citizenship 2 years ago, I think I needed 2 proofs of identity (passport and driver's license). I would contact the closest Irish consulate to you and they should be able to give you specific details on what you need to provide.

: Hi all.
: I've just started reading and investigating
: and I"m a bit confused; if I want to
: get my citizenship (Mom born in Leitrim),
: and I manage to get her long birth cert. and
: parents marriage cert., send along with
: passport app., does the passport act as my
: 'proof of citizenship'? Or is there
: something else I apply for, that being
: 'citizenship' first. Everything I read says
: that I AM a citizen already given mom's
: birth, so perhaps I only need the passport.
: If anyone knows, has had the same situation
: I appreciate clarification. I want to move
: to Ireland sometime in the next few years,
: sell home here first, rent there for awhile
: (with enough funds saved to hold off
: without/until I get a job). But I'm not
: clear on what documents I need. Thanks!
