Hi all, this is the third or forth message I've posted here about my impending Irish move, and off the bat I want to thank you all for how helpful you've been in providing information. This site has been incredibly helpful.
Last week, after 2 years of collecting documents and waiting I received my Irish citizenship by foreign births papers. The certificate has a few numbers on it; a certificate number, a book number and a personal number assigned to me. Now I'm working on filling out my Irish passport application, which they say will take 10 weeks to process at the Chicago consulate. Here's what I'm wondering: Were I to travel to Ireland and enter the country with my American passport, could I obtain a PPS number with my foreign births certificate?
Also, were I to travel to Ireland and enter with my American passport, could apply for a passport within the country and get it back sooner? The legalities are all a little dubious, but I'm in a situation where it would be personally and professionally be better for me to move sooner rather than later.
(I'm planning on only moving over for the short-term, perhaps living there for a year and returning to America. That's why I'm eager to head over there asap and get my adventure started.)
Thanks!
John
