Hello all, I stumbled across this message board when I had just about exhausted myself looking for information on moving to Ireland.
A little background: I am 21 years old, from Northern California, and it is a lifelong dream of mine to live in Ireland. I don't have a collegiate degree as of right now, as personal circumstances in the last two years caused me to take a short break from school, but am going to be going back starting this fall. I would really like to participate in the NUI Galway international summer school program next summer, just to sort of get a feel for the area, and if all goes well, relocate to Galway within the following year and finish up my degree at the university.
Will there be any jumping through hoops involved that I should know about now? I thought if I could maybe get a jump on some of those things, it would be much less stressful when the time actually comes. The only thing I have is a passport... I was actually supposed to go on a two-week trip to the west of Ireland this past April, but personal circumstances, on top of economic stress caused the trip to be canceled.
If any of you know, I would appreciate any information on what sort of effect the recession is having on university students there. It's a stressful topic for me, as I have all of this ambition to do what I have always wanted to do, but the economy is just so terrible everywhere... I have been waiting to hear something, anything, positive. I have been planning this for so long, and am feeling really discouraged at the moment.
Any input is appreciated. Many thanks.
