We used North American Van Lines, or at least their local francishee, when we moved from the desert close just behind LA to Ireland.
With just a few boxes, just pick any reputable firm. Get insurance. These days, if you can, check their financial status to avoid any sudden bankruptcies that would tie up your goods for weeks. Pack well with lots of padding.
Millions of tons of goods are shipped daily into and out of LA port and also into Ireland. They've got the basics down.
Just get that insurance and stop worrying. When some of our chairs swelled going through the Panama Canal, a few photos and a wee bit of paperwork and we got our money right swiftly. Other than that, our stuff went through just fine.
Of course, real valuables and key paperwork needs to go with you personally. Laptop, diamond ring, bank savings book, etc.
Over the years, I've been contacted with every kind of horror story imaginable. But, not once, has anyone mentioned a shipping horror.
Am I wrong, folks? Want to give Sally the chills? Send on your horror story - or reassure her.
