While researching the possibility of farming in Ireland I came across this site: http://www.wwoof.org
Being World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. It is international and you can volunteer on a farm in exchange for food and accomodation. It looks like a good way to live in an area for an extended time without moving there.

Has anyone wwoofed in Ireland? http://www.wwoof.ie/
