My only words of comfort,John..this is how just about everything in Ireland works..Think of it as gaining valuable experience and knowledge!
I wouldn't recommend moving over though yet, until you have the passport. Good luck!

: Hi there. I've been working for about a year
: now to track down all the necessary
: documents to apply for Irish citizenship by
: decent (I'm a U.S.-born citizen). I first
: submitted my application to the Irish
: consulate in Chicago back in September 2008,
: but it was returned to me in November
: because my dad's birth certificate wasn't
: properly certified. I tracked down the
: proper certificate and mailed it off in
: early December. Since then, I've been
: eagerly awaiting my citizenship so I can
: move abroad. A few concerns I have:
:
: -The Irish consulate in Chicago won't
: confirm receipt of my application and said
: when I asked them on the phone "if you
: don't hear anything from us that's a good
: thing." They said it should take 6-8
: months to process. So now I'm waiting to
: receive it between May and July, but I'm
: worried because I haven't heard a word from
: them. Can someone tell me this is normal and
: I'll hear from them soon?
:
: -I want to move to Ireland as soon as I get
: my citizenship. Is there anything keeping me
: from doing this? I have an American
: passport, but no Irish passport (obviously,
: since I'm not yet a citizen). Can I move to
: Ireland with my citizenship but no passport?
:
: -What other things can I be doing right now
: to prepare for my move?
:
:
: Honestly, I feel quite stressed out about
: this since my life is essentially at a
: stand-still waiting for these papers. I'm
: not renewing my lease for my apartment here
: in the states, I've stopped looking for
: long-term jobs (currently surviving on a
: temp. job), I'm putting it all on the line
: for a move to Ireland, but I haven't heard a
: word from them yet. Does anyone have some
: words of advice or comfort?
:
: Thank you,
:
: John
