I also heard today that they've got a hiring freeze in place.
Everyone who works in the health service says the same thing - the layers of useless administration are huge. That is the result of the botched setup of the HSE where they simply put another layer of administration on top of the existing health boards. Everyone was sceptical at the time and I wrote about it in the newsletters a few times. Totally predictable - but it meant more jobs for the boys.
The solution is to get rid of the Health Service Executive entirely, but you can bet this is not even in the farthest recesses of the minds of those directing the cuts.
PS. Mary Harney, health minister, presided over this mess. She should be first on the chopping block.

: It only gets worse.
:
: As I noted the HSE is presently 40%
: administration, a ridiculously high ratio.
: The 1200 HSE redundancies being reported
: today include 700 front line nurses. Par for
: the course.

: Irony, I love it.
:
: Seriously, with such an imbalance of
: administrators to workers, it's clear that
: at least another 20,000 of the latter can be
: cut without endangering health service
: executive functions.

: If I heard correctly last week on the radio
: for the 62,000 front line health department
: employees there are only 42,000
: administrators. If so there is hardly any
: fat left to cut.

:
: I did and looking under radiology and x-ray
: and mri I found a total of zero jobs on
: offer. Perhaps they're using different key
: words?
:
: Just as likely, they're trying to meet their
: billion euro plus deficit by not doing any
: more hiring. Still, they had that extra bit
: of cash to give the top 100 staff a juicy
: bonus.

: http://www.radiology.ie/ is the

: Probably your best place to start is with
