I guess that I’ve dodged the bullet for now. My next concern is long term residency [LTR].
I am in the 2nd year of my [2-year] green card. I have recently updated my passport and received a Stamp 1 that allows me residency for year 2. €150 please.
My green card does not require renewal after 2 years [as of now], but I do need to have permission to maintain my residency after 2 years.
It was my understanding before I arrived in Ireland that long term residency [passport Stamp 4] was available to holders of Green Cards following the initial 2-year period.
However, when I recently renewed my Stamp 1 for a second year I was told to watch the official website for potential changes in LTR rules and that temporarily there were only issuing passport Stamp 1 to folks who’s Green Card had matured.
Other than the hassle/expense of having to pay €150 every year for a Stamp 1 I would like to have a little faith that after 2 years I wouldn’t have to watch the government play with the rules every year and wonder which year could be my last. I would like long term residency after 2 years.
If anyone has any info on what the proposed changes will be or knows which official website I should be monitoring, I would greatly appreciate the information.
