Ireland has been remarkably accepting of the huge influx over the past decade. Whether that attitude will hold up in harder times remains to be seen.
Only about a third of foreign workers are even re-applying for existing work permits as the jobs melt like snow in the tropics.
But, hey, you're from the UK, which hardly counts as foreign. Better yet from the Erin go Bragh Irish point of view, you're not English.
It's the not the newcomers amongst us who are swallowing the jobs, but global recession hitting an economy that everyone knew was in bubble mode. At least so far, no one's blaming the Polish plumber for their troubles.
Actually, it's the Poles who are living in Poland that are causing problems. Dell announced today that it is moving production to Poland because workers there earn 7 euro per hour less.
