Thanks Sandy. I reviewed some of your posts and it seems like you had a crisis some time ago. Did you have to leave the country? Did you end up going back (to Ireland)? Interested to know how it turned out for you.
I think I will try to line up a few interested agencies/employers and take a three week holiday (as Scott suggested) to meet them. I'm hoping this approach works. If not, then I'll dive in much the same way you did!

: I have written my story before but here is a
: short version. From the US I contacted
: several recruiters who specialized in
: placing people in my profession. Only one
: contacted me.
:
: They tried for several months without luck
: to get me interviews. I also personally sent
: out over 100 CV’s.
:
: I finally bit the bullet and moved over.
: First thing I purchased a telephone. Second
: thing I found a place to rent for 3 months.
:
: The next day I contacted the recruiter and
: sent her a new CV with my Irish address
: & phone number. She called back in the
: late afternoon to tell me that she had just
: resent my CV to the folks on her list.
: Within 90 minutes I had three interviews.
: Within a couple of days I had 2 more. Five
: interviews yielded 2 offers.
:
: Yes, you have to be here.
:
: P.S. If you haven’t purchased the full site
: do so immediately. It will be the best
: investment you can make in support of your
: move.

: Hi all! Great message board here. Hoping to
: get some advice or guidance on my best
: options.
: I currently work for a large consulting
: business and have a wealth of experience in
: 'management consulting'. I've looked for
: jobs in Ireland for quite some time and my
: skills are in demand there (specifically,
: certifications I hold).
: I have no family connections to Ireland but
: I'm wondering what the best approach is to
: find an employer to sponsor me. My company
: does not operate there so that's not an
: option.
: Should I keep applying and hope I get lucky,
: or should I just bite the bullet, move there
: for three months and then search hard while
: in country? I can take about US$50K with
: me, but prefer not to spend it all searching
: for a job!
:
: Any advice on what the best approach is? I
: really love the country, the people and
: culture. By the way, I'm a US citizen.
: Thanks!
