I was going to point out that you'll need a converter. If you're planning to rent, then a fridge comes with the place.
These days you can get big American style fridges in Ireland, but most kitchens aren't designed to handle them. I see a lot of these big monsters in utility rooms where they provide secondary storage. In some cases, the homeowners run back and forth to the utility room for necessities constantly. NOT good kitchen planning.
I also know people who went on vacation and came back to a burned down house. Their fridge caught on fire. That's unique, though, in my experience. It was a big topic of conversation simply because it was so unusual.
My own feeling is that these are electrical appliances and the more doodads and stepdowns tacked on then the more possibility of trouble. Still, as Cheri points out, a converter will probably do the trick.
