Posted by Mike 7 on December 12, 2001, 10:50 am All three "Batgirls" wore red wigs, which they did not remove; they only removed their masks at the end. The Batmasks were a black shiny material. The costumes were different from the original used on the show. I don't believe they used the bat symbol on the chest, either. I don't know if DC comics had a problem with using the original costumes or what. I heard years ago that DC would not let Adam West make appearances in his Bat costume, probably because DC was taking the Batman character in a darker, grittier direction-and many at DC were found the campy Adam West version embarrassing. I assume that's why the Batgirls were in off-versions of the original costume. If Batman can't wear his, then Batgirl probably can't wear hers. But they probably wouldn't have given permission anyway. Most of the time these companies don't allow use of the costumes, etc. to make money in public. The owners of "The Lone Ranger" 'unmasked' the late Clayton Moore years ago, denying him appearances in his Lone Ranger costume. He had never been seen in public without his mask, but Moore got around it by making appearances and signing autographs in a cowboy outfit, and a very large pair of dark sunglasses. I'm just guessing, but seems that wearing an off-version of a costume, like he and the Batgirls did, is a way around it.
I don't have it on tape, I wish I did-but they'll probably rerun the show.
