Posted by Joe on August 31, 2001, 7:42 am For me I think it is the excitement of watching an amazing metamorphosis from ordinary lady to superhuman, coupled with her vunerability during the process of the change. Diana Prince's nervy glances from side to side moments before she begins to spin are just as thrilling as the transformation itself. It highlights that she knows she is in a high risk situation every time she makes the change of identity, but she is forced to change because she knows the situation demands it. It's almost as if she is putting her own life (or identity rather) on the line for the sake of saving others. She knows Wonder Woman is needed to save someone life, but everytime she transforms she is also risking her own private identity being exposed. A dilema I like is when a heroine has to choose between her secret identity and her responsibility as a heroine. Like when she cannot find the privacy she need to switch in time, and is forced to expose her secret identity. I love the idea of the inner turmoil of her everyday identity saying "I want to go on living a normal life" against her superhuman identoty saying "We must save those people from the burning building" One problem I have with Supergirl is that she can change at the speed of light, so she can never get discovered while mid-identity. But, on the other hand, she makes up for it by wearing her uniform under her regular clothes, so at any time someone can expose her identity in the street.
What is so special about a woman transforming into a heroine? Why is it that we all love this so much?
