Re: reeves family
My ancestor Manasseh Lyles had several descendants with either a first or middle name of Manasseh. There was also at least one older Manasseh Lyle(s) in Loudoun or Fairfax counties, Va. I recently came across a book on Google books entitled "The Parish of Strathblane and its inhabitants from Early Times" by John Guthrie Smith. Glasgow: James Maclehose and sons, 1886. There is a section entitled The Lyles of Arlehave and Dunburgh - "This family, now longer in Strathblane, were for two centures at least leading people in the parish. In 1614 John and MANASSEH Lyle bought from Sir William Edmonstone the small part of Arlehaven Edmonstone called Dallinschachan and Boglands, and in the Lyle family this small farm remained till 1717 when it was bought back by the Duntreath family...." It goes on about other Lyles who bought and sold property in the area and then "It is needless to attempt to unravel this old Strathblane family. There were MANNASSEHS, Roberts, Johns, Jameses, and Charleses of Dallinschachan, of Dunburgh, of Cult and of Arlehaven or Meadowhead and in Dungoiach and they married and intermarried with each other and their neighbours, as Strathblane people persistently did in those days." There is some more pertaining to Lyles in the 1700s in the area. Also, there were quite a few Scottish families from that area living in Maryland close to what became Washington including the Edmonstone family mentioned above. I and a couple of other researchers discussed the Lyles and some of this info on the Lyles surname on rootsweb a couple of years ago and will still be there.
