I sure understand how this could turn your world upside down again. What you must look at is how he behaved when he had the A and left you. Do you have any reason to believe he has changed the way he handles things? Unless he took a good look at himself, did not like what he saw and then did the hard work to change himself, you would be going back to the same guy who left you and treated you so badly.
He apparantly did not say how sorry he was for his behavior or anything about how he hopes you are doing OK after the devastation he caused you. I did not hear anything in his words except that he thinks of you all the time which tells me that life is not he wonderful thing he thought it would be so he is now regressing in his mind to the "good old days".
If you truly love him still, and are not just lonely and also thinking of the good old days (which apparantly were not so good since he treated you very badly) then wait and see if your card gets you a phone call. And if you get a phone call, play it very, very cool or you will find yourself hurt again.
