I believe that by telling his wife you are doing her one of the biggest favors. Right now, she probably feels that something is wrong but her husband is keeping her in the dark, which makes her feel ill at ease. She cannot control her life and her marriage because she doesn't know what's happened, and she cannot even start on the road to recovery because she doesn't know.
I did tell the other woman's husband and I was very glad that I did.
