Having been in shelters 5 times, I am pretty familiar with them. Call your local one and find out what they have to offer- free childcare while you look for employment, and how long you are allowed to live in the shelter. Often after a certain amount of time, a shelter will move you free of charge into one of their temporary apartments from 6 months to 2 years while you work and save money. You need to probable go ahead and set up a secret checking account that does not bear interest. Have the statements sent to your parents house or whereever. This way this will not have to be turned into taxes, since there will be no interest. The shelter also provides you with free counseling, food, clothes, etc, and usually free transportation. You will feel safe there. The first 2 weeks you feel like a zombie because you are so exhausted from having always walked on egg shells, but you will begin to talk to the volunteers and other residents and learn a lot of helpful things. Please continue to post.May God Bless You.
