As far as material things are concerned, in my state, if something was yours before the marriage, it remains yours. Otherwise you have to come to some agreement with your ex about splitting property, or have a judge decide for you. That could be anything from a judge who looks at each item in question and thinks about who needs it more, or a judge who goes down the list, numbering the items, and you get all the even items and he gets all the odd ones, or vise versa. You never know what a judge is going to do. -Pam
