Hello out there Shelly and Kimberly (anyone else here??). Coming to this board is like going to an almost-deserted island!
Hmmmm...why does that laughing smiley always look mad to me??
Anyway, how are you all (all 2 of you!)doing with school stuff? Shelly, I just now saw your post that you moved! Do you like it where you are now? Probably a lot warmer, if you like the warmer weather.
Well, we will NOT finish science or history before summer break, so we will just keep going with it until we do. My son is wrapping up his first year using Teaching Textbooks for math. Overall, not a bad year. He struggles with some concepts, but changing the curriculum again really isn't going to help. Math is just not one of his best subjects! We are still using ABeka's language stuff for him. Since it isn't broke, we won't fix it. For 7th grade, I am going to try him with Apologia General Science and see how that goes.
My daughter is still using ABeka's math, language, spelling, and reading. She is a "reading maniac" so I'm not even sure I'm going to use all the 3rd grade readers next year. If I didn't have them in the house already, I probably wouldn't be buying them. She reads so much stuff, and is reading 1-2 grade levels higher. Still does NOT like to write, though, and doesn't care for math, either. She will continue to use Considering God's Creation for her science text, plus library books, special projects, field trips, etc...
I'm stumped on geography. We use Mystery of History, Vol. 1, and most of their geography work is outline mapping of ancient places, since Vol 1 is Creation to the Resurrection. I'm wondering if my son needs more. I think I may make a separate post and see what you all think.
I really do not like ABeka's geography stuff. Their lesson plans don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason, and they are really geared to those that are using Abeka's history books, which we are not.
Anyway, other than the conundrum of geography, we're doing pretty well. My daughter is practicing for her Spring Culmination ballet recital, and my son is continuing with swim team over the summer.
What's new with everyone else?
