Guys like nightcrawler, cyclops, captain america, punisher, and daredevil have been shown to be about his equal in speed. Yet they seem fast enough to avoid getting blasted to pieces or eviscerated every issue.

Wolverine used to be listed at being able to bench about 500 pounds. That isn't bad for a 195 pound guy. He was never listed as being as fast as the fastest animal on earth. While he is obviously slightly faster than normal, from a pure physiological capacity, his speed doesn't begin to approach Spider-Man's.
