I thought the opening of parliament last year with a Crown / regalia simply carried in and and placed in front of Charles, who was only wearing a ceremonial uniform, was pretty perfect. I think Charles should seriously consider not wearing than gaudy crown ever again. Not to mention Camilla in that uncomfortable tall contraption. She barely managed it now. Imagine her balancing that thing in a few years time. Poor thing! Give the woman the Regal Circlet or something else sparkly that is at least a bit more comfortable.
My feelings are very mixed about it all. It will be some time before I can process all and express it all.
Representation of so many faiths was a success.
I believe there were compromises that affected the service in the Abbey, so that the old and new often jarred for me.
All of the outdoor pageantry was outstanding. It is what the UK does so well but this occasion outstripped all previous.
The Hurrah in the Palace gardens was brilliant!
My disappointment began when we knew that Queen Mary's Crown would be altered.
The balancing of history with sustainability is not a pushover.
I would have preferred to see the crimson robe of Queen Elizabeth II preserved as it was. That robe was worn by her to many many State Openings of Parliament throughout the longest reign in British History. Imagine that: a garment unique to the longest reigning monarch.
At this point I feel we have seen the final coronation. If there is a next it could be in the style of an installation, with simply a display of the sovereign's crown or with other selected pieces of regalia added. Dress code? Will it matter.
