Interesting that media in Europe describe HM vist to Germany (and France) foremost as an obvious attempt by the Sunak government to improve / restore the relationship with the EU (starting with the German-French Axis) after Brexit rather than a visit brought on by the ascension of a new King. But it's clearly soft power at work as they call it these days.
It could be a bit of both reasons, I don't think the motives have to be mutually exclusive. So, visit coincides with his recent ascension to the throne and then the more political motive of reparative gestures with other European nations. Also, there was the additional gesture he made at the WW2 memorial.
