Just heard on TV someone talking about Charles III and comparing him with his ancestors Charles I and Charles II. Of course no Monarch since Queen Anne has descended from Charles I or Charles II (please don't call the Jacobite Pretenders British Monarchs).
The first Stuart monarch, James I & VI, is the common ancestor of all the British monarchs who came after him through his daughter Elizabeth. As for the Jacobites, I guess one man's pretender is another man's rightful monarch. They remain the heirs general of Charles I through his youngest daughter, Henrietta Anne.
It is interesting that the next Monarch, William V, will descend from Charles I, Charles II and Charles III. Thanks to the Stuart blood of Diana , Princess of Wales, via Charles II by Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, and Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Grafton, and his brother James II by Henrietta FitzJames
As Charles II left no legitimate offspring (how different the history of this country would have turned out had he done so) I guess he has no legally recognised heirs general. Unofficially, I'm not sure which of his current descendants would currently fulful that role.
