Prince William, the Prince of Wales has taken part in his first investiture ceremony as PoW. Among other awards, he presented one to the actor Vanessa Redgrave creating her a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, the female equivalent of a knight. If the PoW ever watches old films about his ancestors, he might enjoy Ms. Redgrave in the 70's production"Mary, Queen of Scots". https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/prince-william-hands-awards-vanessa-160219472.html
Interesting. Vanessa had always refused honours in the past because of her extreme left-wing political views. Wonder what changed her mind?
I guess this now leaves Glenda Jackson as the only distinguished British actress without honours. She too has refused them because of her strong Socialist views (she was for years a left-wing Labour MP before resuming her acting career). Wonder if she will continue to hold out?
Her own father (Sir Michael) accepted a knighthood and an OBE so she was surely used to being around titles at home. Perhaps having reached her eighties has modified her views anyway. Interesting you should mention Glenda Jackson since she's also in that old film "Mary, Queen of Scots" as Elizabeth I.
