I agree, and to underscore the point the Latin version of the monarch's name was done as recently as Edward VIII's short reign when coins were struck as "Eduardus VIII Rex".
However, the coins of the last monarch, Elizabeth II, used the English version of her name. The King has obviously decided for continuity sake to go with what was previously done.
