I understand that the children of Princess Helena and Prince Christian were born and raised in Britain and we're considered members of the British Royal Family.
Yet they were also members of the Augustenburg branch of the House of Schleswig-Holstein. Basically my question is where they recognized as still being of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg family? Did they have what we would call dual citizenship today and were the subjects of the German Emperor?
They certainly remained members of their father's ducal house because Helena's younger son Albert succeeded as Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenberg in 1921 following the death of his childless cousin and went to live in Germany as a subject of his cousin, the Kaiser. He fought for the Germans in WW1 but, at his request, was exempted by the Kaiser from having to fight against any British troops.
Don't know if they were ever considered dual subjects.
