Now when the Earl of Wessex becomes the Duke of Edinburgh I guess they could treat James as the son of a non-royal Duke especially if James isn't using his princely titles.
It's strange, James is titled as the son of an Earl...or a non royal Earl....even though his father is a royal Earl. It will be the same I guess when the Earl of Wessex becomes the Duke of Edinburgh...James may be titled as the son of a non-royal Duke even though technically he will be the son of a royal Duke.
He could do either. I i9magfine Edward and Sophie will make that decision known when it happens.
I was just curious, since I thought the Wessex title is regarded as not "attached" as a lesser courtesy title to a higher title. Meaning, in this instance, it and the Severn title would have to be recreated as such for the new Edinburgh title. If not, then presumably Viscount Severn would just continue as Severn until he succeeds himself to the dukedom.
