Re: Jubilee cities
City status in the United Kingdom is granted by the monarch and has nothing to do with the population. Though it carries no special rights, the status of city can be a matter of prestige and pride. Dunfermline is the town that has been granted city status in Scotland this year. It's seen as a matter of Scottish pride due to the close links the City historically has with Scottish Royalty. Malcolm III and his Consort Queen Margaret, the only Scottish Queen to be granted Sainthood, were married there. 18 Scottish Monarchs are buried in the Abbey, which was built at the orders of their son King David.
