Obviously she was named in honor of the queen who was ruling at the time of her birth, and who would be the last of the Stuarts to sit on the British throne as the reigning monarch. Her parents were clearly brownnosing, since they might otherwise have named their eldest daughter Sophia. Anyhow, I was just wondering whether Queen Anne was her godmother. I ask this because earlier in royal history, King James VI of Scotland (the future James I of England) named his eldest daughter Elizabeth, not Mary. Moreover, Queen Elizabeth I, the last of the Tudors, was her godfather.
Anne was christened shortly after her birth at Schloss Herrenhausen in Hanover. There is no record of who her God Parents were.
