So that would make three major exceptions: Monaco, Montenegro, and Albania. Well, since the famous Catholic monarchs go back further in history, they would make a better case of being the nearest common ancestors to (almost) all the European royals, both reigning and non-reigning. I read that all 10 monarchs today -- including Prince Albert II Grimaldi -- descend directly from them.
And I believe it was confirmed earlier (on the ERMB) that even Prince Leka of Albania descends from them -- correct?
It's remarkable, considering that Ferdinand and Isabella's descent survives exclusively through their two middle daughters, Juana and Maria. But considering the aggressive and ambitious royal matchmaking involving their children and grandchildren, perhaps it's no surprise.
