I finished the book a few weeks ago and was disappointed overall. I think it is a good, definitive, official account and I found the letters very interesting but did find the endless descriptions of her official engagements very dry. Eighty years of visits to factories, agricultural shows and military parades does get a little repetitive for the reader (if not Queen Elizabeth). I think anyone but an ardent royalist would give up. I did enjoy the descriptions of the Queen Mother's parties though and am astounded she didn't die of liver disease..Gosh she liked a drink (at lunch, dinner and any opportunity in between!!). Overall I thought what a great character who contributed immensely to Britain. Not a perfect person by any means (this was a sanitised version after all and the Bowes Lyons got away very lightly I thought) but certainly a great lady.
