The treasure consists of gold torcs that would have been worn by Celtic nobles during the period immediately prior to the Roman invasion.
The tribe living in this region at the time were the Dumnonii, who were a British (Welsh) people. They survived the Roman period to emerge as the Kingdom of Strathclyde, only to fall to invading Irish (Scots).
